Flux Wealth and HI Soup Event

Produced while working at NMG Network

A night of philanthropy and civic engagement — all over a bowl of soup.

To celebrate the FLUX: Wealth issue, we hosted a crowdfunding dinner event in partnership with HI SOUP and Waiwai Collective. Three non-profit organizations, Puʻuhonua Society, Kalihi Valley Instructional Bicycle Exchange (KVIBE) and IHS for Kahauʻiki Village, pitched projects that hope to better our local communities to the crowd; collectively we championed ways to make them a reality.

Chef Mark Noguchi of Pili Group created the soup of the evening, inspired by our featured artist Lauren Trangmar’s favorite childhood dish. Refreshing libations were provided by farm-to-cup mixologist Gazoz and Ocean Organic Vodka. ʻAwa by Waiwai Collective's ʻAwa and ʻAi was also available for guests to enjoy. In addition, we had live music by Nick Kurosawa and screen printing by Alistar Rokstad.

Together, the crowd raised over $600 per organization to go directly to the projects and the work they do. In addition, in-kind donations were made in addition to the monetary donation. These commitments were goods and services like time and resource sharing.
